Her Name Is Nikita Gill // Su Nombre Es Nikita Gill

jueves, julio 27, 2017

Nikita Gill is a poet from England who received 137 rejection letters before publishing her book. That would've stop many writers, but it didn't stop her. She has thousands of followers in instagram (myself incluided) who followed her and read her poems from the beginning. Nikita is an example that if you want something with all of your heart you have to persevere to achieve it; Gill did and today she is the author of "Your soul is a river". In my country you can't get that book but luckily she publishes many fragments of it in her instagram, and also on internet you can find many more, as well on her tumblr. (and of course you can buy it online)

I was once reading an article that said that her book was going to be published, and in a part of it she said something that I simply loved: "poetry has become a powerful platform to express emotions about important issues currently in the world and within one self, the silent wars we feel alone in. The reason I write is to connect with others who feel as passionately and powerfully about subjects like femininity, mental health, trauma and their own identity."

As a person who writes and that inspires to have a book of my own one day, this explanation touched my soul and it made me admire her a lot more.

We are always talking with a friend about how important poetry is, and that we are so sad that nowadays it isn't take seriously or is not as important as it was in the past. I loved that Nikita talks about subjects that were not discuss in poetry before, like also does Rupi Kaur or Lang Leav (I'd totally write a post about them too because they are simply amazing). I like that Nikita is a disruptive person. I like that she makes herself hear. I like that she breaks out from the paradigm that says how poetry needs to be written and that words have to rhyme. I like that she is free.

Your soul is a river".
