Motivation for finals // Motivacion para finales

martes, diciembre 06, 2016

Wether you are in the north or south hemisphere you're probably going through finals, and we know how hard it can get, how frustrated and stress we tend to be during those tough weeks, so here are so tips I have learned this year:

1. Get a reward // Date una recompensa
Sometimes you're just tired and you want to quit everything, and start your vacations already. In those moments what works best for me is thinking about how am I going to reward myself after I pass the final, and that motivate me so much to keep studying. The reward can be starting that new series tv show that you've your eye on since your saw it on netflix, or buying that pair of shoes you like so much. Anything that helps you do that extra effort makes the difference in this cases.

2. Study with friends // Estudia con amigos
There's that beatles's song called "with a little help from my friends" and it applys perfectly for study time. Although generally an afternoon of study with friends means doing anything except study, believe me when I say that if you really study, you're going to kill those finals. The other day I read an article that said that one of the methods to learn what you have to study is to explain it to another. So study with a friend is the perfect excuse to be able to explain the themes to someone else and understanding it even more.

3. Get some sleep and eat well // Dormi y come bien
I know that you've probably heard this one a hundred times from your parents or grandparents, but it's super important. When we sleep 7-8hs and we eat all the meals (especially if we include fruits and vegetables) we're going to feel with more strenght to keep studying, instead of feeling tired and with the desire of spent all day long in bed.

4. Make a list // Hace una lista
Making a list that contains all the things you've to study for that final you're studying is going to help you being focus, organise and more positive. Write down what you're going to study each day and leave the last day before the final to go over everything you've study, and you'll be less stress.

5. Get support to get motivated // Pedi apoyo para estar motivado
For example, you can ask your family to not let you have any electronic device that can make you lose track of time, or you can ask them to wake you up if its late and you're still sleeping. Those little things are the ones that makes the difference.

6. Remember your worth // Recorda tu valor
Last but not least, please never forget that you're not you grades. You are so much more than that. Wether you get a 10 or a 2 you are an amazing person, worth of incredible things, and you're smart. Look yourself in the mirror and repeat "I'm worth it" until you believe it. If you pass the final my most sincere congrats, but if you dont, remember that's not the end of the world.

  6. I think my only reward day is today, haha. After today, it's a hard grind. But yep, eating good, studying with friends, and making lists (lots of lists) has definitely been pretty helpful for all my exams. Sleep pretty much escapes me though, haha.

But I'm definitely going to try harder for these finals! Thank you for this list and the motivation!

  10. I heard its finals week for my university friends. Good luck on your exams. :) Haha sometimes studying with friends can be a motivator or distractor. I find that it helps when you study with friends who are taking the same subject so you can review with each other.
